Varden (fortified manor)

From "In Genin's Footsteps" by Julian Verdreth, 715 TR: [1] [2]

Although Kobing is often regarded as “the last outpost of civilization in southern Kaldor”, that honor should really belong to Varden, a league from Kobing and barely a hundred people.

The village of Varden is a wonderful place to see if you are heading north. Northbound, it marks the southern edge of Kaldoric strength and a refuge from the Pagaelin.

It is not such a good place to see if you are heading south. Southbound, it marks the last time you will see the safety of Kaldor for over a dozen leagues.

It's wilderness beyond here. Firith patrols the road but the Oselmarch is big and his Army is small. With three times the men he might be able to put up wood forts every couple leagues across the hills and keep them manned to cut down on the Pagaelin problem. But no chance of that; if he had that much muscle, he’d be a threat to the King’s careful balance of power. [3]
