Ravelin (manor)

From "In Genin's Footsteps" by Julian Verdreth, 715 TR: [1]

Less than a mile further (from Ladyne) is the tiny village of Ravelin, fairly new and struggling to grow. It is still run by the village reeve, who reports frequently to Lord Larquste of Eliten. The stream hard by the village runs faster and deeper here than downstream at Ledyne. I have asked about this, and am told that sandy soil north of Varlin soaks up much of the water.

Two miles further is Eliten.

Ravelin is a small village, only a generation old and not yet able to afford a stone keep for defense. It’s less than a mile south of Varlin with a population of only sixty or so, small enough that it is held by the village reeve on behalf of the Baron of Eliten rather than by a knight. One of the reasons it exists at all is that there is a decent ford across the stream there and as such it is useful to have someone watching over the area. In time of need, it wouldn’t be hard to destroy the ford and impede an enemy’s progress. The stream is wide and shallow with a sandy bottom. Stones set in the right places would channel the water into a tight, fast stream, washing out the ford and making the crossing too deep for wagons or footmen while making the current too swift for horses to easily cross.
